E.A.T Systems™ is a flexible, lightweight, interconnected production solution integrating multiple devices and technology to improve production, reduce risk and increase value. The system seeks to achieve the following goals:

  • Reduced Tillage: Integrated raised boxes that are part of the lollipop trellis design reduce the overall tilled area of a given field by 60 to 70%. Only the raised boxes are tilled regularly. The aisles are planted with a “green manure” or legume to provide nutrients and act as a cover and can be easily maintained.
  • Efficient Water Use: Drip irrigation is integrated into the trellis design so that production can be as water efficient as possible. Water usage is monitored so that real time comparisons can be made between water consumption and productivity.
  • Conserve Energy: Temporary climate control is available as needed by covering the trellis with greenhouse film or plastic. This is considerably more efficient than mechanical heating or cooling systems, especially in terms of costs. In many instances, the covering may only be used for brief periods at the beginning or end of the growing season. The size of the loop is deliberate in that the air inside may be heated either by geothermal or other means, it is the least amount of air needed to be heated to protect the plant.
  • Reduced Land Costs: Varying heights of the trellis are available for vertical growing to increase the density of production per square foot. This has a direct relationship to land costs whether leasing or owning. It is estimated that, depending on the crop, production can be increased up to two-fold or more in the same area. Thus, a producer can either grow more on the same amount of land or reduce the land footprint to achieve the same production.
  • Improved Labor Conditions: The field layout as well as the trellis are designed to enhance the effectiveness and access for labor of all abilities. Having modern utilities such as lighting, music/sound, Wi-Fi, and other conveniences will foster an improved labor environment. In fact, this system is potentially ADA compliant and ideal for veterans of all abilities.

Environmentally Augmented Trellis

E.A.T Systems™ by Agriburbia Inc. is a patented (and patent pending) environmentally augmented trellis system ideally suited to intensive farming in urban, peri-urban and rural spaces. Unlike greenhouses and other controlled environment agriculture systems, the financial barrier to entry is low and it does not require building permanent structures or permits. This is an ideal technology for existing and new small to mid-sized producers who want to increase their productivity and therefore profitability.  This is a dynamic system that can be used anywhere, even in the most challenging conditions such as a vacant lot or a rooftop farm.

The goal of E.A.T Systems™ is to provide an organized and standardized SaaS based three-dimensional field matrix within which fruits and vegetables can be produced. This matrix with its clusters of sensors is intended to make fruit and vegetable production more resilient, viable, predictable, physically accessible, trackable, and ultimately more economically viable. Ideally, small to mid-sized farmers in urban and rural areas could use this system to increase the profitability of their farms.

With Agriburbia’s extensive experience not only in agriculture and natural resources but also having an intimate knowledge of land economics and development, it became a goal of the company to find a solution to allow or catalyze the creation or conversion of thousands (likely millions) of small (roughly 2 – 10 acres) high intensity, high quality, commercial grade, value added farms and farmers.
